Dance Studio List (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website at https://dancestudiolist.com (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies only to information collected through the Site.

If you have questions about this policy, contact us at adele@dancestudiolist.com.

1. Information we collect

We collect information in three ways: information you give us directly, information collected automatically when you use the Site, and information from a small number of third-party services we rely on to run the Site.

Information you provide

Newsletter signups. When you subscribe to our newsletter (from the footer or the Contact page), we collect your email address.

“Add Your Studio” submissions. When you submit a studio for inclusion in our directory, we collect: the studio’s name, website, Instagram handle, type, dance styles, special programs, address, contact email, contact phone number, any awards or recognition, how you heard about us, and an optional profile photo. If you don’t supply a photo, you authorize us to download one from the studio’s public Instagram page.

“Studio Change Request” submissions. When you ask us to update an existing listing, we collect the studio’s name, website, Instagram handle, contact email, phone number, the changes you’d like made, and an updated photo if you provide one.

Studio owner claim and account information (when you claim a listing). If you claim a studio listing as its owner, we collect information needed to verify the claim and create your studio-owner account: your name, the email address associated with the studio, and any verification information you submit. We also store a claim status (pending, verified, denied) and a one-time verification token associated with your studio listing.

Direct correspondence. If you email us or use the contact form, we receive whatever information you choose to include.

Studio reviews. When you submit a review of a studio, we collect: your email address (used to let you know when your review is published, and entered twice so we can confirm it is correct), whether you are a dance parent or family member or a student, the age group of your dancer(s) or your own age group, your star ratings (overall experience, teaching quality, community & culture, facility & space, and — for parents — value for the cost), how long you or your child has attended the studio, whether you would recommend it, and your optional written review. To leave a review you must confirm that you are 13 or older. We also store a hashed version of your IP address and the time of submission to help prevent spam and duplicate reviews. If you check the optional box to receive studio news and competition updates, we add your email address to our marketing list (see Section 4).

Information collected automatically

Site analytics. We use Independent Analytics, a self-hosted analytics tool, to understand how the Site is used. It records page views, the page you arrived from, your approximate geographic location (derived from your IP address using a local IP-to-geo database), the type of device and browser you are using, and the time of your visit. Your IP address is salted and stored in a way intended to prevent it from being traced back to a specific person.

Security logs. Our security plugin records login attempts, login times, password changes, and basic session activity for accounts on the Site. This data is used to detect and prevent unauthorized access.

Cookies and similar technologies. WordPress, our content management system, sets functional cookies needed to operate the Site — for example, to remember that you are logged in (if you have an account) or that you have submitted a comment. We do not currently use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking pixels.

Comments. If you leave a comment on a post, your name, email address, IP address, and browser user-agent are stored alongside the comment.

Information from third parties

Google reCAPTCHA. Our forms use Google reCAPTCHA to prevent spam. When you submit a form, Google receives information about your interaction with the page, including your IP address. Google’s use of this information is governed by its own privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Google Maps geocoding. When a studio is added or updated, we send its address to Google’s geocoding service so the studio can appear on map-based listings. We store the resulting latitude and longitude alongside the listing.

Instagram (public profiles). When you submit a studio without a photo, we may retrieve a photo from the studio’s public Instagram page to use as the listing image. We do not access any non-public Instagram data.

2. How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

3. Publicly displayed information

The Site is a public directory. The following information about each studio is published on the Site and is visible to anyone who visits the relevant studio’s listing:

When a review you submit is approved and published, the following appears publicly on the studio listing: your star ratings, your written review, whether you are a parent or a student, and the month and year of the review. We do not publish your name or email address with your review.

If you submit a studio, you confirm that you are authorized to publish this information about it. If you are a studio owner and want information about your studio corrected or removed, see Section 7 below.

4. How we share information

We share information only as described below.

Service providers we use to run the Site. We rely on a small number of third-party services to operate. Information may pass through or be stored by:

These providers process information on our behalf and are bound by their own terms and privacy policies.

Legal requests. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, legal process, or a valid government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Site, our users, or the public.

Business changes. If Dance Studio List is ever transferred to a new owner, sold, or merged into another business, information held by the Site may transfer with it. We would update this policy and notify the people affected.

5. How long we keep information

We keep information for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy:

When we no longer need information, we delete or anonymize it.

6. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical measures to protect the information we collect, including a managed-WordPress hosting environment, security plugins that monitor and block suspicious activity, and password and session protections for accounts. No method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your choices and rights

Email and newsletter. Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email us at adele@dancestudiolist.com to be removed from any of our lists.

Correcting or removing a studio listing. If you are a studio’s owner or authorized representative and want your studio’s listing corrected, updated, or removed from the directory, use the Studio Change Request form on the Site, or email adele@dancestudiolist.com with the studio name and your request. We will respond within a reasonable time.

Account information. If you have a studio-owner account, you can update or delete it by contacting us at adele@dancestudiolist.com.

Cookies. You can configure your browser to refuse cookies or to alert you when a cookie is being set. Disabling cookies may affect parts of the Site, such as the ability to stay logged in.

Do-Not-Track. Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no universally agreed-upon standard for responding to these signals, so the Site does not currently respond to them.

8. California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (“CCPA/CPRA”), gives you specific rights regarding the personal information we collect about you.

Your rights. Subject to certain exceptions, California residents have the right to:

How to exercise your rights. Email us at adele@dancestudiolist.com with the subject line “California Privacy Request” and tell us which right you would like to exercise. We will verify your request by asking you to confirm details we already hold (for example, the email address associated with a submission). You may also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf, in which case we will verify both your identity and the agent’s authority.

9. Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. Before submitting a review, visitors must confirm that they are 13 or older; anyone who indicates they are under 13 is blocked from the review form. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us at adele@dancestudiolist.com and we will delete it.

10. Third-party links

Studio listings include links to studio websites, Instagram pages, and other third-party services. Once you leave the Site, this policy no longer applies. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any site you visit.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and update the “Last updated” date at the top. If the changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify affected users — for example, by email or a notice on the Site.
